Stir Fries are among the easiest recipes you can make. Once you have prepped all your ingredients, they come together in no time. This chicken and broccoli recipe is one of my favorites as well as Black Pepper Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
To make this delicious chicken and broccoli stir fry recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Light olive oil
- Broccoli
- Onion
- Mushrooms
- Soy sauce
- Chicken broth
- Honey
- Cornstarch
- Sesame seed oil
- Fresh ginger
- Garlic
- Red pepper flakes
- Freshly ground pepper
- Sesame seeds
I always recommend using reduced-sodium soy sauce, and if you like dark meat better than white, use boneless, skinless chicken thighs. If you are feeding small children, you might want to skip the chili flakes.
How To Make Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry?
First prep all your ingredients, then follow these simple steps:
- Make the sauce: whisk together the soy sauce, chicken broth, honey, cornstarch, sesame seed oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and pepper until the honey and cornstarch are completely dissolved.
- Heat one teaspoon of sesame seed oil and half a tablespoon of light olive oil in a wok or heavy bottom skillet and brown the chicken pieces over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Season with salt and pepper, transfer to a plate, and keep warm.
- Add one tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet and stir-fry the sliced onions, mushrooms, and broccoli florets for about three minutes over medium-high heat.
- Give the sauce a quick stir, and pour it into the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until thick.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and cook until heated through. Serve with sesame seeds on top and over freshly cooked white rice.
How Long To Boil Broccoli Before Stir Frying?
You don’t have to boil the broccoli florets before stir-frying them. Cut them into small florets and they will cook perfectly “al dente” just by stir-frying them. They need to be cooked but still have a bite to them.
Why Is My Chicken Not Browning?
Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the oil, and make sure the oil is hot before placing the chicken pieces in it. Don’t overcrowd the skillet or the chicken will cook without browning. Add just one layer of chicken and don’t move it for two minutes. Turn the chicken pieces over and cook on the other side for 3-4 minutes until fully cooked.
What Veggies Can I Use For Stir Fries?
The best veggies to use are broccoli, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, carrots, bean sprouts, cabbage, and green onions.
