Is It Hard To Make Dumplings for Soup?

It is not hard at all, you just have to be extra gentle with the dumplings when adding them to the soup. Follow these easy instructions:

  1. Place the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and dried parsley in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Add the butter pieces and cut them into the flour using two knives or a pastry cutter, until it resembles sand.
  3. Add the milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Flour the kitchen counter and place the dough on the counter
  5. Roll the dough into a ¼- inch thin sheet using a roller dusted with flour.
  6. Cut the sheet into 2-inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter.
  7. Make sure all surfaces are well covered or coated with flour because the squares might stick.
  8. Place the chicken broth in a large pot and bring it to a soft boil.
  9. Carefully pick up the squares of dough using a spatula dusted with flour and drop them into the boiling broth one by one.
  10. Once all the dumplings are in the pot, carefully mix in the shredded chicken and cook until warmed through. Serve with freshly chopped parsley on top.

How To Prevent Dumplings From Sticking To Each Other?

Do not add the dumplings if the broth is not boiling. It doesn’t have to be a hard boil, but it must be very hot and boiling. If the broth is not boiling, the dumplings will not cook fast enough and they will stick together.

Notes

  1. The dough is very soft, so make sure you add flour to your surface before rolling the dough thin.
  2. Flour the spatula you use to pick up the squares as well. I used a metal one and found it the best.
  3. Make sure the broth is boiling when you add the dumplings in.
