Ingredients

  • 1 (10.5) oz can condensed French Onion soup, divided
  • 1 lb ground beef (I use lean ground beef)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 ½ tsp dry parsley
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms

Instructions

  • Mix the ground beef, ⅓ cup French onion soup, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt and pepper in a medium-sized bowl until well combined, and divide the mixture into 6 patties.
  • Make the gravy: in a small bowl combine the rest of the soup with the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, flour, mustard powder, garlic powder, and water until smooth.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and brown the patties on both sides.
  • Pour the prepared gravy over the patties, place the sliced mushrooms on top, and cook for 20 minutes with the lid on. The patties should be cooked through and the gravy thick.

Notes

  1. You don’t have to fully cook the patties when browning them. Remember they will cook for 20 mins in the gravy.
  2. If you feel the gravy is not thick enough, let it simmer with the lid off until thick. If you feel it is too thick, add a little water to thin it out.
  3. For more flavor, you can add sliced sweet onions along with the sliced mushrooms.
